Q :
What do we do when people are constantly angering us by their words and actions and causing us to lose our peace, even when we try to be loving?

Fr. Francis :

I am afraid that, as I have already mentioned, there are only three ways:

  1. Avoid the occasion of sin and abuse: this is not avoiding the problem, but we must be smart in knowing our own threshold. If I know a person or an occasion will cause me to stumble, and if it is avoidable, I should avoid it. In the same token, if my threshold is not capable of bearing more burden, I need to find ways to recuperate and be renewed.
  2. Face it with Jesus, calmly and mercifully the best we can.
  3. Offer the pain and suffering and persecution as a reparation for sinners and release for souls in purgatory. When there is suffering we must face, don’t waste it; use it to win souls. Though it may cause me much suffering, let me willingly take it as a token that fresh graces may pour down on poor sinners, especially those who are in imminent danger of perdition.
