Q :
Are babies conceived through IVF any “less of a life” than life created in a loving consensual marriage between a man and a woman?
【 Question from 】 Canada 加拿大

Fr. Francis :

Every child conceived, regardless of the parents or the circumstances or the means by which, is a beloved child of God. Every life is a breath of God and life in and of itself is supreme beauty; and human life especially is the image and likeness of God.

The question with IVF has to do with the mechanism being devoid of a direct connection with the loving act of procreation, and the reality that being part of the process, embryos are determined and selected through human criteria. This opens to abuse and experimentation. As well, additional conceived embryos are kept indefinitely with no absolute guarantee of the right to life should the freezing period expires or the company bankrupts.

Meanwhile, few people are seeking approved and moral methods, like hormonal therapy that respects the sanctity of life and the intimate act of procreation.
